Pregnancy Diaries Entry 9: Sweet as Mother's Milk

Okay so the next big purchase is the breast pump. Or as I like to call these gadgets "The Mother Sucker" or "The Tubes that Suck your Boobs." Either way I need your help. I haven't really done any research on these nifty toys but I've seen some that are $300.00 and others that are $60.00. What brand name did you go with? Did you love it, hate it? Approximate expense? If you wouldn't mind giving me your recommendation I would surley appreciate it.
Thank you!

  1. I'd like to thing of myself as somewhat of a pump "expert". I had a medela electric double pump - I think it was called "pump in style". It was nice to take to work because it was built in a bag so you couldn't tell what it was. It was somewhere around $200 but I'm not sure the exact price, however it was worth every penny. Happy hunting

  2. Obviously I know nothing about pumps, but I have been laughing about "Mother Sucker" all day. What would I do without your Pregancy Diaries?

  3. I have to say that I am so glad that i didn't buy one. I was set on feeding the babies but it didn't work out. You can rent one from the hospital that they say is better than anything you can buy. So here is my advice, buy one after you know you are for sure able to breast feed. But if I was to buy one I would buy the Madela that you can take with you places, the one Makenzie told you about. When I was looking into buying one for the twins that is the one that I kept going back to and the one that the lactationest in the hospital told me to get. Good luck my dear:) See you in a few!!

  4. A good rule is always, "you get what you pay for". I had the medela many moons ago & I also know of a small colony of friends who purchased the same.

  5. I'm really not quite sure about the whole pumping thing but you asked for recommendations, so here goes. Around the office the guys talk about the models that require 220 volts but I consider that extreme. On the bathroom stalls it's recorded that manual manipulation works well .... again I'm not sure. I like McKenzie’s recommendation to “pump in style”. I always have said and will say it again; if you’re gonna pump, pump with the best. What ever you do please read the safety precautions before sticking anything on your body. It sounds like a wrong application could leave one heck of hickie!

  6. Lindy! Definately go with the Medula pump n style, like Kenz said. It is the best still out there to my knowledge... Ok, I'm about to save you a load of money here, so listen careful... Have your doctor give you a prescription/doctors order for an electric pump. Then call your insurance...most pay for pumps now under your medical equipment benefit! So awesome! I only had to pay about $30 for a $300 pump! Oh, the joys of pumping...Soren stares at me like a deer in the headlights when I pump, and calls the milk, "baby juice". :) Warning:Mason may have the same reaction. :) Good luck!

  7. Medela Pump In Style, It's a heavy duty double pump...you are in and out in about 5-10 minutes. If you get the sixty dollar one, you'll be spending 30 minutes pumping. It's expensive but worth every penny. A MUST HAVE for a working mommy. I use mine like 3 times a day!
