I saw a movie in the theater. I had to write that down because it hardly ever happens anymore. I went with my book club to see Divergent. We had read the book a few months earlier, so it only made sense to see the movie and then talk about the differences.
If there is a movie made from a book I always read the book before I see the movie. That way I can be thoroughly disappointed in the movie. And if someone likes the movie just for the movie I annoyingly bring up details from the book to make them believe otherwise. I usually act snotty and a bit superior over the whole thing. You'll be happy to know I strayed from my snooty ways and was actually quite pleased with the movie. Say what?
Yes I was pleased. I actually didn't love the book. I read the first and didn't quite have the appetite to devour the next two books. The book struck me as unoriginal. A little too much like the Hunger Games. So with no expectation I was able to enjoy the movie. See, and you thought my cynicism had left me.
My book club and I were mostly enjoying the actor who played four. I can't say I'll attack the next to books but I do think I'll see the next two movies. Why? Because one plus two plus one more equals FOUR.

Movie Review: Admission
I LOVED it! I went and saw this flick over the weekend with my mom and sisters. Do you realize that means I saw a movie in the theater on opening weekend? Mir..ac..le! You know I love Tina Fey, that's been established, and she was good, real good. But Paul Rudd, you will absolutely fall in love with him. This movie is funny, touching and surprisingly unpredictable. Go see it!

Book Recommendation, Please
I'll confess I'm ahead on the my Book Club reading list. It turns out laziness and unproductivity lend themselves to some really good reading. Anyone got one for me?

Downton Abbey
I came across a few discussions,
on Blogher today about Downton Abbey. If you are a fan of the show they are
worth browsing through.
One of my girlfriends mentioned she had been
watching it, by our excited reaction you’d think Brad Pitt himself had walked
into the room. Me and another friend lit up, gasped and said, “It’s so good.”
At this point you would have thought we had just been grabbed Brad’s tush, but
no, we were just talking about this charming PBS series.
Downton Abbey is well into its second season, only I
just discovered it. My mom had let me borrow the first season. She placed it on
my counter, “You’ll like it.” It sat in that very spot for weeks, because I hadn’t
had a moment to watch it. Then, low and behold, I heard it had won a Golden
Globe, and that’s when I popped it in. Now, I’m addicted.
I love how the story highlights the servants, whereas,
other British films I’ve seen don’t. You’ll be amazed with the costumes and the
array of character, each with their own agenda. Actors include Maggie Smith,
Elizabeth Mcgovern and Phyllis and Phyllis Logan to name a few.
I’ve just finished season one. They have been signed
on for a third season. Way to go PBS.

Movie Review: New Years Eve
Look at me revealing a movie review in a timely
manner! I actually saw something in the theater instead of standing at a red
box in the freezing cold waiting for the teenage couple in front of me to just
pick a damn movie already. Who are they trying to kid? They are not going to go
home and actually watch the movie, so just pick one, and let us stay-at-home
moms, who look forward to this all week take a little more time to select our
cheap movie rental. Wow, that escalated quickly. I apologize. Where was I?
Oh yes, my husband and I went out on a little date
and saw New Years Eve. It was Mason’s birthday and this was the last movie on
earth I thought he’d choose but as we looked at the movie choices before us, we
scratched our heads I then strained my neck to look up at him and with my
batting beautiful eyes said, “Well, I guess that’s really our only option.” He
sighed and said, “Well we never get to see a move in the theater so let’s just
do this one.” That kid plays right into my hands every time.
Here’s the sitch. It was a Valentine’s Day remake,
but I knew that before I went so I didn’t get the overwhelming urge to stand in
the movie theater and yell plagiarism… or loudly ask people, what is the movie
version of plagiarism? Is it still plagiarism? I think it is right? Although I
think I liked it slightly better than Valentine’s Day. I found the relationships
presented in this flick to be relatable on a few levels. A more interesting
variety of dating, marriages, friends, patient and parent to child relationships
were portrayed. The movie had a rich and hopeful message, though I didn’t find it
to be terribly moving, yet in the end I still cried. Which means two things; I
have a very small brain which allows me to be easily amused and I am a
continual emotional wreck. Isn’t it good to know some things never change?

Arrested Development
Have you heard?
The rumors may just be true! This is what they are saying about the long awaited Arrested Development movie. If you have not Arrested Development, please immediately get your hands on seasons one two and three. If you don't think it is the most cleverly written sit-com than I'm afraid we can't be friends.

Comedy
It was a Thursday night about 9:30 and I had yet to fit in a workout. I reluctantlly set up my bike trainer. Dreading this late night workout I turned on the old boob tube. I cycled through The Office, Parks and Recreation and 30 Rock. There was a moment in The Office where my laughter resignated through my body and caused my legs to immediatley stop spinning. That Will Ferrell.. I tell you what. All I can say is thank goodness for good comedy to get me though an otherwise boring form of excercise.
Yes this is my bike trainer, although not my bike. For the record I love/hate it.

Movie Review: Limitless
Mason took me out for my birthday. I requested dinner and a movie. For dinner, I oddly felt like a greasy American classic. Off we went to Crown Burgers. I had a burger and onion rings, it felt completely reckless, and tasted delicious. The next stop was Jordan Commons to catch a flick. Such a treat to see a movie there. Trust me when I tell you, it's not just seeing a movie it's an experience. My sister, an avid movie goer, has requested her ashes be scattered around Jordan Commons. Need I tell you more?
We saw Limitless. Loved it. Made me think. Crushed on Bradley Cooper the entire time. Spoiler alert: His girlfriend's name was Lindy and somehow that made me like it even more as well as fed a very unhealthy fantasy of mine.

Movie Review: Just Go With It
The Mr. and I viewed this flick on Valentine's Day. We laughed, laughed and laughed, because sometimes you just need a mindless entertaining film with an inconceivable plot and a happy ending to take you out of your own life, even for just a moment. (And can we all agree Jennifer Aniston is hot and Brad is a douche bag? Just saying.)

Movie Review: The Social Network
I'm well aware my movie reviews are never current or up to date. Forgive me, I don't get out much. Anyway, Mason and I finally had the chance to view this flick the other night. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. You should have seen us, our eyes glued to the screen and the only word exchanged between us through the entire duration of the film was when Mason said, "Fascinating." So there you go, along with The New York Times and Rolling Stone Magazine (maybe they know a thing or two). I'm giving it my complete recommendation.

The Middle

Do you watch The Middle? Well I will no longer be viewing it. Why? Because my uncanny resemblance to the character Sue Heck is just too much for my heart to take. As I have watched the show in the past I had thought quietly to myself.. oh no.. I'm Sue.. poor me.. But last night's episode confirmed it. Just a few similarities: I was on Cross Country in high school (Nerd!) There was a rumor that a really cool and popular boy was going to ask me to a dance, and although he never came up to me directly to disprove the rumor when he failed to ask me to the dance the message was received. (Nerd!) And this is the kicker, the oh so painful kicker.. I really did dress like a crayon for Halloween one year..I was in high school.. why did no one tell me! If you read this blog and you knew me in high school I want you to feel very guilty for not telling me!
I have thought of calling the producers and asking them for a writing job, that way I could just write down all the things that happened to me during my adolescent years, thus creating a genuinely humiliated teenager. The first thing I would do is make Sue shorter, that way she could replay my first few days of 7th grade. Warning.. this is a true story.. it will make you laugh at first, but then later when think about it once more it will make you cry just a little. There I was in a new school because my parents had the genius idea of moving the same year I started middle school. I knew no one.. I mean.. no one! On the first day I got my locker assignment, it was a top locker, the coveted top locker.. the only problem.. I was not tall enough to see the numbers on the lock. I tried to do the combination but could never see what number I landed on. I did not want to trade to a bottom locker because like I say everyone wanted the top locker, it would be like saying.. Please God make me a short stalky girl with brunette hair, I hate being tall, blond and thin.. You see no one asks for that kind of shit.
To remedy the locker situation my mother had the bright idea of performing the combination from the bottom. To help her little Sue, she came to the school (that's right my mommy came to the school!) (Nerd!), and with a sharpie made a mark at the bottom, while she looked at the numbers from the top we figured out the combination from the bottom. I made sure to keep this to myself.. until one day, a girl who had a locker next to mine asked if she could store some stuff in my locker because she had just closed hers. She was staying after school, so she would need my combination to retrieve her belongings later.. I did not remember the normal combination.. only the vertically challenged one.. and that is when I had to tell her... If this incident happens to be on the next episode of The Middle, you can say poor Sue.. and.. Lindy

Movie Review: Away We Go

Mason and I watched this flick last night. It was about a couple awaiting the arrival of their first child. They were six months into the pregnancy and expecting a girl... How appropriate. It was fun to hear of their hopes, dreams and mostly their fears for parenthood and for their daughter.I especially loved the music. I'm wanting the soundtrack.
