Valentine's 2014

I hope you had a sweet and sugary weekend. I sure did.
Last week the Mr. and I logged in three dates. Real dates, the kind where you leave the house with out kids. Skiing twice and going to dinner with friends on the weekend. So, I let Mason know he was off the hook for Valentine's.

The day went something like this: Mason surprised me and Milly with roses. Purple for miss fancy pants and orange for me. We thought that was special. We spent the afternoon making sugar cookies. In the evening we opted to hang with the kids and a few friends for dinner and games. It was actually really fabulous.

Easter 2013

Easter is Milly's kind of holiday. She participated in three Egg Hunts. Ate lots and lots of candy and woke up to a new dress on Easter Sunday. I want her life.
Milly age 3. Mack age 6 months. I love these little kids.

Happy Thanksgiving

Today I am grateful for the M's in my life.
Milly, I am thankful that you are the happy healthy bubbling toddler that you are. I am thankful that you are all tutu and princess one minute and the next you have us calling you doggy and answering us in only ruff tones while asking us to turn your bed into a dog house. You are funny, imaginative, and I hope you never stop shaking when you get excited.

Mack, You are this season's miracle. Your dad and I feel too blessed to have not one but two healthy kids come to us. You have a sweet demeanor and I can't stop kissing your precious little face. You are an adorable baby. People stop me wherever I go just to grab a glance of you. And then they undoubtedly exclaim, "That hair!" Mack your full head of hair has everyone shocked. You have been a calm presence in our home and I pray I can be the mom for you that you need me to be.

Mason, You have made this charmed life we all live possible. I love you more with every passing year. You are a better husband, father and person than I ever thought I could be matched with.

Does the Wolf look more scared than Little Red Riding Hood? Hmm...

Because I can't care about everything...

So there I was in the backyard with Milly. We had just finished our morning walk and I decided I would get the rest of my work-out in with the use of my backyard. Milly was in and out of the kitty pool and sandbox. I was doing lunges across the backyard (this is when it pays to have a fenced yard). I looked over at my happily occupied toddler and soon discovered she was pouring melted sunscreen all over her body. And what do you think I did about it? Absolutely NOTHING, with the last of my parental energies spent toilet training I really don’t care about much anymore. I’m a big, pregnant, tired mess and if it costs me a tube of sunscreen for Milly to keep busy then so be it. Here's Milly all suncreened-up working-out with mom.
Here’s to a happy relaxed Fourth of July!

Thanks for a fun trip Mom and Dad.

Little Hands

I hope your Mother's Day was grand. Milly's little hands made this for me while her Dad's hands made me dinner. I have the best family.

Honoring Moms

Sometimes the role of being a mother leaves me feeling overwhelmed. I find myself wishing I was a kid again. I remember, on occasion, my mom would come into my room to wake me up. She would rub my hair away from my forehead and say, "It's time to wake up, brown berry." I loved when she called me that. For some reason it always made me feel unique and special. Then one day we are expected to grow up gentle wake-up calls are replaced with a harsh alarms, words of encouragement must come from within and all the taking-care-of is suddenly up to us. It's a humbling experience.
I feel so blessed to be a mom, and perhaps more blessed to have had the Mom I do.

Mothers of Olympians

Have you seen this commercial? It makes me cry.
I'm no Olympian, but my mom spent a large portion of her life driving us kids to and from practice, watching one sporting event after another. Thank you, mom.

A weekend away

I spent the weekend in Vegas relaxing by a pool. Now I'm playing catch up. I'll be back with pictures and details to make you feel like your own life is not worth living, because that is what blogging is for. See you then.

An Earth Day Miracle

I know Earth Day is behind us, I planned on delivering this story to you on that day, but obviously that didn’t happen.
I am the second girl in a line of three girls. (Dad, notice I said second not middle.) Naturally I received a lot of hand-me-downs from my older sister. The problem was she is a lot taller than me, making me appear as if I was in a constant state of playing dress-up.
What does this story have to do with Earth Day?
Well, there is one specific hand-me-down that is forever sketched in my memory. A big green parka, yes kids, we use to call them parkas. This green dream had sleeves that were about a forearm to long for my arms, rolling this beauty up was not option, the puffiness prevented such innovations. The buttons were different colors and I seem to recall some purple adornments on the front. Here’s the kicker. On the sleeve of this parka was a big patch. The patch had a blue and green earth globe, the wording around the globe exclaimed, “Save the Earth.” This “Save the Earth” parka has made its place in our Phippen Family History. My older sister’s defense is always the same. “What? I was into recycling.” Well, evidently so was I. As a child I saved this earth one hand-me-down at a time.

Happy Belated Earth Day.
