Book Review: Extremley Loud and Incredibly Close

This was another book club pick. With the subject matter being 9/11 I was leery of reading something that may have me weeping over every word, but I actually really enjoyed it. The story is written from the perspective of  a nine year old boy who lost his father on 9/11. The boy himself is a fascinating character and the expedition he takes to find a key he found in his dad's closet made this one a page turner. I think it took me a whole three days to finish, because I just had to know if this boy was going to find the lock to this mysterious key.

I also saw the movie. There were some key differences, one major being you get to know the background story of his grandparents, which proved to be both tragic and fascinating. In my opinion the movie caught the essence of the boy quite well. I also thought it did a good job of capturing the special relationship this boy and his father had shared.
This read gets my recommendation.
